Mixer (formerly Beam) was a Seattle-based live streaming platform for video games owned by Microsoft. The service officially launched on January 5, 2016, as Beam, by co-founders Matthew Salsamendi and James Boehm. Microsoft acquired Beam in August 2016, and later renamed it to Mixer in 2017. The service competed primarily with Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook Gaming. On June 22, 2020, Microsoft announced that Mixer would be shutting down on July 22, 2020, and that it would partner with Facebook Gaming to transition streamers and viewers to the platform.
